Description |
The Meteor and ionospheric Irregularity Observation System (MIOS) facility was specially designed to simultaneously observe optical and radar meteors, and plasma density irregularities generated in meteor trails and in the background ionosphere. The MIOS consists of radar and optical subsystems.
The MIOS radar subsystem is composed of two radars. One is all-sky interferometric radar, with an operational frequency of 38.9 MHz and a peak power of 20 kW. The other is a coherent radar employing an active phased array consisting of 135 three-element Yagi antennas arranged in an area shaped like sword, with an operational frequency of 47.5 MHz and a peak power of 72 kW. The raw data files by the all-sky radar are named as: LD year month day hour_met.raw (e.g., LD2021030812_met.raw). The raw data files by the coherent phased array radar are named as: LD year month day hour_me_h.raw (e.g., LD2022010220_me_h.raw).
The MIOS optical subsystem consists of 24 (23) low-light-level cameras equipped with narrow field f/0.95 lenses, and 2 (2) cameras equipped with wide field f/1.2 lens at Ledong (Sanya), for observing meteor video light curves. The raw data files by the optical cameras are named as: M year month day _ hour minute second_stationID-camera number.avi (e.g., M20220102_203046_say-cam3_3.avi). |

Type |
The raw data by the all-sky radar and coherent phased array radar contain original I/Q components from different channels and the experiment parameters. The raw avi data by the optical cameras contain the information of meteor light curve and background stars. |
Format |
The raw data *.raw by the all-sky radar and coherent phased array radar are in binary format, which can be read using any scientific computing software based on the datasheet of the instrument(see Reference Manual.pdf for details). The raw data *.avi by the optical cameras are in avi format, which can be opened by video software. |
