Description |
We used the modified plate method for chemical extraction of α-cellulose (C. Xu et al., 2013). After chemical extraction, the α-cellulose plates were dried in an oven and α-cellulose rings were cut from the plates under a binocular microscope. Three cores (03w, 11e, 12e) were cut into four equal parts (parts 1–4) for each year, and the other cores (05e, 10S) were cut at 0.7 mm intervals into several parts of each year. The tree-ring α-cellulose oxygen isotope ratios (δ18 O/δ16 O) were measured with an isotope ratio mass spectrometer (Delta V Advantage; Thermo Scientific, Germany) coupled to a pyrolysis-type, high-temperature conversion elemental analyzer (Flash HT; Thermo Scientific, Germany) at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. The δ18 O values of the α-cellulose were calculated by comparison with the Merck thin-layer cellulose microcrystal laboratory standard (29‰, EMD Millipore Corporation, USA). Oxygen isotope data are expressed as δ18 O values in per mil (‰) relative to Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water (VSMOW): δ18 O = [(Rsample/Rstandard) – 1] × 1000. |

The first column is year, and these columns after the first column represent the annual oxygen isotope value. The five colors in the first row represent the five samples (E.V.A 03w-yellow; E.V.Ar 11e-green; E.V.Ar 12e-orange; E.V.A 05e-blue; E.V.A 10s-brown), and the second row is the intra-annual position of the sample. |
