Description All of the sphalerite trace element data utilized for model training and validation were collated from preexisting publications and our unpublished analysis. Trace element analysis of sphalerite was conducted by LA-ICP-MS at the Wuhan SampleSolution Analytical Technology Co., Ltd., Wuhan, China. Laser sampling was performed using a GeolasPro laser ablation system that consists of a COMPexPro 102 ArF excimer laser (wavelength of 193 nm and maximum energy of 200 mJ) and a MicroLas optical system. An Agilent 7900 ICP-MS instrument was used to acquire ion-signal intensities. Trace element compositions of sphalerite were calibrated against various reference materials (NIST 610 and NIST 612) without using an internal standard. The sulfide reference material of MASS-1 (USGS) was used as a secondary standard to verify the accuracy of the calibration method. Each analysis incorporated a background acquisition of approximately 20-30 s followed by 50 s of data acquisition from the sample. An Excel-based software ICPMSDataCal was used to perform off-line selection and integration of background and analyzed signals, time-drift correction and quantitative calibration for trace element analysis. Trace data of sphalerite from 62 skarn deposits worldwide were collected, and classified into three categories: 23 Co-rich skarn deposits, 16 Co-poor skarn deposits, and 23 deposits where the Co enrichment is unknown. We label Co-rich data as '1' and Co-poor data as '0'. These known Co-rich and Co-poor data together form the labeled data, while the rest of the data comprise the unlabeled data. This latter group will be used to test the predictive capability of the models.
